Declaration of Interdependence 2016

Award-winning songwriters Kelly Brouhaha and Fergus Maximus join forces for an end of year celebration of resilience.

2016 has been a tough year and we’ve lost too many good people along the way. Kelly and Ferg are responding the only way they know how: with music that acknowledges the struggles we all face but celebrates the fact we’ve made it this far.

The Declaration of Interdependence is a conscious recognition that the need for community, connection and mutual support has never been greater—we all need each other more than ever.

Through songs of joy and sadness and all the messy things that make us human, Kelly Brouhaha, Fergus Maximus and some very special friends will help connect the dots between us. Come and join Kelly & Ferg in an intimate evening of masterful pop/soul storytelling.

Back in 2013 and 2014, Clare Bowditch—the Oprah Winfrey of Australian Creatives— welcomed 200-odd ‘sensitive creative types’ to her un-Conference aptly-titled ‘Big Hearted Business’. Left with the advice to ‘band together and make cool shit happen’, Kelly and Ferg have done just that. This show is the culmination of a two years of scheming over cups of tea and dreaming about ways to embrace the big-hearted approach to life and the music business. In that spirit, 10% of proceeds from the show will be donated to Cancer Council SA (because cancer sucks and we are well sick of it).

If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘Songwriters in the Round’ format, Kelly and Ferg will take turns singing songs and telling the stories behind the songs, sometimes solo, sometimes together and sometimes inviting special guests to join in. It is going to be a relaxed and engaging night of captivating voices and genuine musical community.

The Declaration of Interdependence. Because we all need each other.

Check out the Facebook event for more details. Doors open at 8:00. It’s a school night so we’ll be done by 10:30ish. Tix will be available at the door but you can save yourself the hassle by pre-ordering using this link.

Please share the event around your networks and feel free to print out the flyer (below) and stick it up on your noticeboard at work or in the lunch room. It is going to be so much fun and we’d love to see you there.

Let’s kick cancer’s butt

The wonderful Clare Bowditch eloquently refers to cancer as ‘this bastard disease’. She is, in this as in many things, absolutely correct. It is a hideous rampaging monster with a frightening reach that affects almost all of us. And we are often left feeling powerless as it weaves its sour sorcery through the blood, bodies and bones of those we love.

That’s why Ferg put his hand up to be involved in the Kicking Cancer’s Butt: one beat at a time fundraising event. Because while we may be helpless in the moment, in the face of what cancer does to the people we care about, we don’t have to take it lying down. We can fund research that helps find ways of preventing and defeating this bastard disease. We can fund support networks for people who are going through that ongoing rollercoaster nightmare. We can band together to kick cancer’s butt so that our grandchildren don’t have to go through the things we experience. Let’s consign cancer to being a footnote in history. Come along and be part of the solution.
