Fergus, Paula & Chloe — Monday, 19 June at The Ed Castle

It’s been a couple of months since Fergus Maximus hit the stage. Come along and join in a fantastic night of local original music at the Ed Castle (and remind him why he needs to get away from the computer more often).

And Ferg was delighted to discover he’s sharing the bill with friends, the lovely and talented Paula Standing and Chloe Warrick. [Full disclosure: they are both lovely and talented; it’s not an either/or deal.]

Yes, it’s cold out but the atmosphere will be nice and warm inside The Ed. There are yummy things to eat, delicious things to drink and wonderful music to enjoy.

So make a note in your diary to get off your couch, turn off the TV and the computer for a while and head out for some fun times. And we know it’s a school night so things will wrap up by 10 pm. Check out the Facebook event here.

‘One Gaslit Night’ EP launch

Let the fanfare begin! [Insert appropriate fanfare]

The new Fergus Maximus EP, ‘One Gaslit Night’ will be launched on Sunday, 17 July at The Jade Monkey. Ferg’s excellent bandmates, Kym and Jamie, will be around to do the heavy lifting so Ferg can enjoy being the performing monkey up front. The night will be kicked off by the wonderful Courtney Robb.

One night only. Don’t miss out. Tickets through Moshtix.

It’s Official! Fergus Maximus to play Beyond Festival 2016

Hey folks, we are super-excited to announce that Fergus Maximus is on the lineup for his first Festival! Ferg will be performing (solo) at Beyond Festival in Canberra on the October long weekend alongside Lior, Shane Howard (from Goanna), Auntie Rosalie Kunoth-Monks, Liz Frencham, Fred Smith, Ferg’s great mate Darryl Sellwood and a host of others.

Beyond is ‘a boutique festival celebrating creativity, justice and genuine community’ and will be a weekend full of music, comedy, poetry, speakers and workshops. It feels a bit like a mini-WOMAD.

There are only a few days left to get Early Bird tickets to the Festival (the price goes up by $40 per person on Friday, 8 April) so get onto it ASAP and secure a spot. Ferg had a really fantastic experience attending the 2015 festival and is absolutely delighted to be part of this year’s event.

Hope to see some of you there!

Third Album Season

Hey it’s 3rd album season for three great local artists.

The wonderful Skipping Girl Vinegar are about to go into the studio with the legendary Brad Jones (Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule, Matthew Sweet). I am only insanely jealous as he is my dream producer. You can help make it happen:

The sweet and lovely Little Stevies also have a new album ready. They could really use a hand with promoting it:

And Jen Cloher’s compelling 3rd album “In Blood Memory” has been out for a couple of months but ought to be better known. It’s brilliant – equal parts swaggering and staggering – and well worth your time:

What are you waiting for? Go have a listen. I’ll be writing reviews of these as they come out. Tune in soon for a look at “In Blood Memory”.

Last chance to win Clare Bowditch tix

This is the last chance for you and a friend to win tickets to join Ferg (and the lovely Andrea) at Clare Bowditch’s Winter Secrets Tour in Adelaide on Friday, 9 August 2013 (sadly, the gig is 18+).

Be quick. The competition closes at 11 pm tonight. The “Signing up” part means that you choose to accept the occasional Fergus Maximus e-newsletter (very occasional; I haven’t written one in forever).

To enter go to: http://bit.ly/18LYhWn

When you click the link to enter, Offerpop will ask to access your information. Don’t be afraid. Facebook rules say that you are not allowed to run a competition on your Facebook wall — you have to use some kind of app. Offerpop is the app I have used to create the competition. Their privacy policy says that Offerpop will only collect your information for the purposes of this competition and that your details won’t be given to anyone except me. And I promise to only use them to contact the prizewinner and send out an occasional newsletter.

We’d also love it if you Like the Fergus Maximus band page but that’s not compulsory (and if you already have Liked it, go you!).

And the winner is …

Well the competition is closed and Ferg didn’t win the chance to sing with Clare Bowditch but putting together the video was so much fun that it would be churlish to sulk too much. If you haven’t seen the video yet, what are you waiting for? It’s fun you should be having. Check it out here:

Ferg’s a cappella cover of Clare Bowditch’s ‘One Little River’

And how could we begrudge the lovely Kelly Breuer? Ferg heard her version about a week before his video was ready and loved it so much that he immediately followed her on Facebook (he admits that his heart sank a little when he realised she was from Adelaide). You should go check her out!

But wait, there is more winning still to be done. A competition is in the wind. Details soon. But for now, why not check out the teaser announcement on the book of faces?

One Little River

The wonderful Clare Bowditch is touring Australia in August and she’s created a competition inviting people to do a cover of her latest single (One Little River). From the entries she will choose a local someone to join her onstage at each of the gigs on her Winter Secrets 2013 tour.

To my surprise (and minor embarrassment), Clare actually shared the link to my entry before I got around to it. Why not have a look for yourself? You can find the video at either:

YouTube

Vimeo (Higher Quality Version)

This has now, incidentally, instigated the creation of the official Fergus Maximus channels on YouTube and Vimeo. What does that mean? I have no idea but watch this space.

The First First Sunday of the Month Gig

Sunday marks the beginning of a new era for Fergus Maximus as we commence the first in our new GWETRD series down at Artel in lovely McLaren Vale.

The name of the GWETRD series may be a bit hard to remember (it stands for “Gigs With Easy To Remember Dates”) but the dates are really, really easy. We are now on at Artel on the first Sunday of every month. How easy is that?

Why not come down this weekend so you can tell people you were there when it all began. The GWETRD series starts on 7 July 2013.
